Is Your Company "Export Ready"?

Your company may be more "export ready" than you think. Take the Export Readiness Test and discover your company's potential to take your agri-business worldwide.

Many small companies believe exporting is only for large, multinational companies, but the U.S. Department of Commerce reports that the majority of American businesses sending their goods and services overseas are companies of 20 employees or fewer. Small companies often find success in exporting due to the "niche" status of their product or through specialized services.

Export Assistance and Training

The Branded - Market Access Program (MAP) is a federal matching reimbursement program. It reimburses a company for up to 50 percent of its expenses related to export endeavors. The Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) and the Southern U.S. Trade Association (SUSTA) administer this program. TDA actively recruits companies to participate in the program and provides guidance to companies to fill out the application and to identify approved expenses and activities.

Reimbursable activities include advertising, trade shows, travel and per diem costs related to foreign trade shows, promotions and labeling. See if your company qualifies for the MAP Branded Program.

Texas Livestock Goes Global

Only a livestock marketing program as big and bold as the Lone Star State it represents could possess the resources to bring buyers and sellers together to facilitate the export of livestock and premium livestock genetics to destinations around the world.

No matter what type of Texas livestock you are selling or searching for, TDA's Marketing staff is available to help you find what you need. Providing exceptional personal assistance, TDA's bilingual livestock marketing specialists are a source of information, and can even assist in coordinating buying trips for ranchers and others in the market for purebred or commercial livestock genetics. TDA livestock marketing specialists can do everything from arranging itineraries and meeting buyers at the airport to escorting them to Texas ranches, serving as guides and translators.

State Trade and Export Promotion (STEP) Program

The State Trade and Export Promotion Program is a trade and export initiative administered by the U.S. Small Business Association. Funded by federal grants and matching funds from the states, the STEP Program is designed to help increase the number of small businesses that are exporting and to raise the value of exports for those small businesses that are currently exporting. For 2012, Texas' approved project will focus on three key markets, the People's Republic of China, the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Korea. For more information on this program, contact Carlos Guerrero at (512) 463-6507.

Certificate of Free Sale and Sanitation

The Texas Department of Agriculture is aware that considerable confusion exists surrounding a frequently requested document called the Certificate of Free Sale and/or Certificate of Origin. If a Certificate of Free Sale and/or Certificate of Origin is requested, the Texas Department of State Health Services' (TDSHS) Food and Drug Licensing Group issues an official document called the Certificate of Free Sale and Sanitation (CFSS). For general information visit the Texas Department of State Health Services website and click on "Frequently Asked Questions", or call (512) 834-6626.

For exportation information for meat, poultry and egg products, please visit the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service website or call (888) 674-6854.

If difficulties persist with an exporter, or your company needs more information, please e-mail us at goglobal@TexasAgriculture.gov.
