It has been a Vernon tradition for over 60 years and is home to the famed Santa Rosa Palomino Club. Festivities begin on Wednesday afternoon with a downtown parade and the fun continues throughout the week with a clown contest, BBQ dinner, rodeo and Friday and Saturday night dances. The Bluebonnet Fest is one of the most anticipated events around. The La Verna Lions Club sponsors the Miss La Verna Pageant throughout the year and it concludes with the festival held at the City Park. The Carnival will go on all day. The Queen and her Court lead the Parade, which includes Floats from local and surrounding area businesses, clubs and the like. Classic Car clubs display their cars, there is a Volleyball tournament, Little League has a full slate of games planned and the kids enjoy an day long Carnival, and there will be Arts & Crafts, Food and Drink Booths, Vendor Booths, a Live Auction and a Raffle. The day ends with a Dance under the stars. Proceeds from this event will go to fund the Lions Club many charitable contributions. Llano has pulled out all the stops for the 5th Annual Texas Proud Festival and Shoot ‘Em Up Competition. Over $10,000.00 in prize money and trophies will be awarded for winners in gunfighters, living history, and encampment competitions along with costume contests, best actress and actor awards, and beard and mustache contest. This year's competition is open to all groups from across the nation and is held under RGA guidelines. Funders' Forum is the "Largest gathering of funders in the nation". The event allows leaders to develop one-to-one relationships with funding representatives through breakout funding sessions, exhibitor tables and one-on-one consultation sessions with grant making agencies. There is no charge on the seminars and the only charge for the three day program is entrance into the funders forum/trade show event and dinner with the funders. The Stockdale Watermelon Jubilee was first celebrated in 1937 and is one of the oldest watermelon festivals in Texas. The Jubilee is held each year at the Stockdale City Park and features a variety of events including an old-fashioned rodeo, a carnival, food booths, arts & crafts, live concerts, kiddie games, a dog show, the Watermelon Olympics, volleyball, horseshoe and washer tournaments and a variety of family-oriented cultural shows. The Chamber of Commerce uses proceeds to provide scholarships to seniors and Stockdale High School in addition to mini-grants and other monetary donations.
