February 27 - March 1: Texas Cowboy Poetry Gathering, Alpine
Created in 1987, this event is the oldest of its kind in Texas and second oldest in the United States. The Gathering exists to promote, preserve and practice an important part of the oral tradition of the American West. In addition to classical, traditional and contemporary cowboy poetry, the event includes presentations of cowboy music and story telling. All sessions are held on the campus of Sul Ross University.
