Hardworking Rural Community Awards 2010
Each year, the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) spotlights rural communities through the GO TEXAN Hardworking Rural Community Awards. Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples honors communities' efforts and salutes their vital economic and cultural contributions to Texas.

As a benefit of being part of TDA's GO TEXAN Rural Community Program, you are eligible to nominate your community* for these awards. This year, winners will receive statewide publicity to enhance their efforts to support and grow business, tourism and community investment dollars. Along with recognition through social media, news releases and GO TEXAN e-zines and publications, TDA will present will be present winners with a plaque for display at their city halls. TDA will announce nine Hardworking Rural Community awards and one Shining Star Award.

We are introducing a new concept to the Hardworking Rural Community Awards application. Instead of the written application, communities may submit videos telling us why their community should be considered a Hardworking Rural Community. We are looking for information regarding tourism, community development and improvement, economic development and your strategies for future progress in these areas. Video entries will not increase your chances of winning over written applications and are not required to apply.

Applications must be received no later than Monday, Aug. 16, 2010. All application and submission forms, rules and disclaimers are available by clicking the links below. Be sure to answer all questions on the application and follow all submission instructions. Applications (typed/printed) will be accepted via mail, fax or e-mail and must be followed up with the original document.

Rural Texas is a unique place. TDA wants to showcase the dedication, leadership and ingenuity shown by community volunteers, business owners and city and county officials working together to preserve the past, celebrate the present and anticipate the future of rural Texas communities.

*Applicants/communities must be GO TEXAN Rural Community certified communities or associates.

In accordance with state government budget restrictions, monetary prizes have been temporarily suspended for the 2010 Hardworking Rural Community Awards.
